Having a complete Google My Business profile is a great way to market your business online and look legitimate to people searching for the goods/services you provide. It puts your business on Google Maps where people can use GPS navigation to get to you and it gives people easy access to the things they need to know about your business. Without a complete profile, your potential customers may be unable to quickly find what they need, for instance during a mobile search on-the-go, or they may be attracted to a competitor with a better-looking listing.
Getting Started
Create an account at https://www.google.com/business/ and then search for your business on Google Maps.
If it doesn’t appear, you have to add it yourself:
- Click “Add a place”
- Fill out your info
If it does appear, it was likely added by a third-party database, in which case you need to claim it:
- Click “Claim this business”
- Change any inaccurate info
Google will then verify your business ownership by sending you a PIN number by mail, call, text, or email.
Once you have ownership of your page, make sure you have completed the following:
- Contact Info – Address, phone number, contact email
- Hours – Fill in your hours of operation
- Website – A link to your homepage
- Professional Photos – High quality photos of your establishment, products, team, etc.
- Positive Reviews – Encourage your customers to give you a Google review
- FAQ’s – Enter any frequently asked questions into the Q&A section
- Optimized Description – Fill out a description with keywords (especially your city name) within the first 120 character.
